Timeless heritage meets mountain modernism: A sanctuary in the rugged Spanish peaks.
THE CHALLENGETo seamlessly integrate a traditional two-story vernacular stone house with a contemporary flat-roofed extension on a steep, challenging slope. The objective was to create a fluid dialogue between the historic structure and the new addition without overpowering the aggressive, natural beauty of the surrounding terrain.
THE SOLUTIONWe implemented a "Seam" strategy—introducing a transparent glazed link that acts as a lightweight bridge between the heavy original stone and the new, stepping concrete volumes. A curated material palette of local limestone, weathered chestnut wood, and raw concrete anchors the building to the earth, while expansive glazing and green roofs merge the interior living spaces directly with the misty landscape.
THE RESULTAn emotive and atmospheric family residence that feels deeply rooted in its environment. The design successfully balances historical weight with modern lightness, providing a functional, high-comfort home that embraces the dramatic weather and views of the Asturias region.
